Getting Started

I have a confession to make. For the past four years, I have let my job become my life.
I work nights.
I work weekends.
I work holidays.

Don't get me wrong, I loved my job.

But when you have to go on dates at 10 a.m. on a Tuesday morning because that's the only time you have free, things have to change.

So I made a change.

On February 14 I am starting a new job. This job is a wonderful opportunity for me - both professionally and personally. I have the opportunity to develop new skills, while enhancing some that I already have, and I have a regular work schedule (8-4, M-F).

So what will I do with all this time on my hands? Well, let me share with you one of my passions: list making.

Here is my plan:
  1. Focus on my education. I am in the Masters in Public Relations program at IUPUI and am about halfway through my classes. This semester I have my capstone class and I would love to have the time to really make my campaign shine.
  2. Find my friends. I have friends. I swear, I do! But somehow, in the last few years I have fallen out of contact with so many. I love to travel. My friends live all over the place. So here is my warning to them - get your couches, guest rooms, or pup tents ready because I'm coming to visit!
  3. Learn my city. I have lived in Indianapolis for four years and still have very little idea what the city has to offer its young professionals. I love art, music and theater as well as a good glass of red wine. I'm sure I can find some places in Indy that can accommodate my interests.
  4. Get involved. I love to volunteer for causes that are near and dear to me and volunteerism has always been a big part of my life.
  5. Get healthy. I approach health in a holistic way - understanding that physical, emotional, and mental health all need to be addressed in order to be a truly healthy person.
My plan is pretty simple: make time for me. I hope that by sharing my journey through this blog I can hold myself accountable and help inspire others reclaim their lives too.
